7th Grade Jazz Band is open to interested seventh grade band members. This performance based class will introduce classic jazz tunes while incorporating jazz history. Additionally, interested students will learn basic improvisational skills. Informal performances may take place in the spring. Jazz Fundamentals rehearses on Thursday mornings at 6:55am.
8th Grade Jazz Band is a performance ensemble for eighth grade band members. The jazz band will perform for the school and at the annual Jazz Cabaret. Jazz Band rehearses on Tuesday mornings at 6:55am.
*Students must be in concert band in order to participate in jazz band - as our concert band curriculum works in tandem with the jazz band curriculum. Students interested in playing rhythm section instruments (drum set, bass, guitar, piano) will need to audition as there are limited spots for those instruments. Additionally, we strongly encourage students who participate in jazz band on piano, guitar, bass, or drum set to study privately, as these instruments are not part of the concert band curriculum. Concert band provides the essential ensemble skills and musical foundation required for participation in jazz band, while private instruction helps these students develop the instrument-specific technical skills needed to be successful.
Jazz groups will begin in late October.
